The collaboration between Nintendo and Illumination unveiled the debut comprehensive teaser for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie this Wednesday. It was showcased in a Nintendo-focused broadcast that focused exclusively on the forthcoming animated feature.
The follow-up to the 2023 blockbuster The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this fresh entry will transport Mario to the far corners of the cosmos. There, he will encounter a fresh princess character and a challenging new adversary in Bowser Jr., the offspring of the Koopa King.
Similar to the Wii-era games that provide its foundation, Mario will leave behind the familiar comforts of the Mushroom Kingdom to journey through the cosmos. During his grand adventure, he will encounter once more some well-known personalities, including the Luma, a fan favorite from the first movie.
But it appears Mario and his sibling Luigi will face a fresh enemy in the form of Bowser's angry little boy, who reportedly utilizes powers related to metal. Interestingly, the trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not solely focused on Galaxy-themed scenes; it also contains hints to further iconic releases like Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.
The movie will see the return of the primary vocal talent, including Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.
Fresh faces in the lineup for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Brie Larson, who will bring to life Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, set to play Bowser Jr. This was confirmed by the CEO of Illumination, Chris Meledandri.
Mario's latest cinematic adventure is set to release close to the 40-year celebration of the first Super Mario Bros. title. Apart from the cinematic release, 2026 is shaping up to be a major period for Mario and his allies.
Nintendo confirmed a set of three fresh titles already confirmed for the upcoming year, including Mario Tennis Fever, a Switch 2 edition of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a fresh Yoshi side-scroller titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is planned for launch on April 3, 2026.
