Steam Next Fest is currently underway, and gamers have found a variety of engaging indie games. Yet, one catches the eye for its quirky concept. Titled Unko Technica, this old-school styled side-scrolling game features a hero that is actually a piece of poop striving to make its way to a toilet. As a fun fact, "Unko" means "poop."
How you interact is easy to grasp: just use a single jump button. Throughout one hundred fifty stages, encounter boss fights and access a shop to purchase skins for your fecal avatar.
Time your jumps with caution, since one wrong move requires starting over. Leap using air pockets to propel yourself upward, traverse fragile platforms, and touch triggers to reveal hidden paths. Collect currency for buying tougher game content as the action intensifies.
In terms of design, the game features eye-catching environments and an amazing background music. The retro visual style with morphing geometric shapes may remind fans of classic titles like Earthbound.
Although hard to recall other games where you play as a dung character, video games often incorporated scatological themes. For instance, in Death Stranding, you can create grenades from character waste. Games like Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved utilize dung as fertilizer. Naturally, such content shows up a lot in the role-playing game The Stick of Truth.
Putting aside its silly idea, Unko Technica has already earned impressive accolades, such as being named best at Bandai Namco's game competition in 2023. A playable preview is accessible currently on Steam, with the final release scheduled to arrive on Steam in the fall.
